Manuel van Hoben is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at ISCTE-IUL, where he furthers his research on Light Festivals and how they re-articulate the feeling of belonging, space, and local identities.  Quite interested in artistic interventions where the ephemeral impacts on the urban cultural composition of the cities.

Currently, he is exploring the use of GIS in Urban Sociology and the use of Video Filming in Urban Ethnography.

In previous research, he has worked on the concept of citizenship and the liminal urban areas.
